To celebrate the approaching spring season, Delaware Valley University's Arts on Campus Initiative will bring the work of four Bucks County-based painters Show More...to campus for an art exhibition. The show, "Springtide & Solstice," will be on display on the second floor of the University's Life Sciences Building from Feb. 6 through March 31. Lisa Tremper Hanover, a former director and CEO of the James A. Michener Art Museum, is serving as the event's guest curator.
DelVal will host a public opening celebration for the "Springtide & Solstice" art exhibition on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. in the Life Sciences Building. At the opening, the University's Chorale and the Palisades Community Chorus will present a concert featuring Haydn's masterpiece, "The Seasons." Following the concert, guests will have the opportunity to meet the featured artists and guest curator. Guests do not need to reserve tickets in advance and there is no cost to attend the opening event.
"We are excited to work with guest curator Lisa Tremper Hanover on this exhibit given her connection to the region and knowledge of Bucks County's landscape painters," said Arts on Campus Co-Chair Linda Lefevre. "We invite the surrounding community to join us on campus for the concert and to view the work of these Bucks County artists."
"Each featured artist has exhibited award-winning work in prestigious juried, one-person, and group exhibitions throughout the country," said Hanover. "The selected artists have also garnered recognition as leaders in the artistic community."

The Art of Seating: Two Hundred Years of American Design organized by The Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville, Florida, presents a survey of exceptional Show More...American chair design from the early 19th century to the present day. Each of the more than 40 chairs in the exhibition was chosen for its beauty and historical context with important social, economic, political and cultural influences. Frank Hyder, who splits his time between Philadelphia and Miami, has become known for working across a variety of media. His paintings and sculpture have Show More...been widely exhibited in venues such as the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art's Museum of American Art, the Carnegie Museum in California, the La Salle Museum of Art in Philadelphia, and the National Museum of Catholic Art and History in New York among others. Hyder has also created several public art works, including three murals through the City of Philadelphia's Mural Arts Program: Hanging Garden of I-95, Honey's Garden, and Bell's Pond.
Hyder's fascination with the public sphere has manifested in a multimedia experience titled The Janis Project. Begun in 2015 and still continuing today, Hyder has created over a dozen large-scale, double-faced inflatable sculptures of heads. Hyder states of The Janis Project that each head, "which at once references Moai of Easter Island, Olmec heads and, the ancient Roman god of new endeavors, at the same time has its roots in street art and inflatable toys...Janis carries a message of equality and good will and dares to step out of the normal world of Art museums or Art Galleries to be among us. Made of resilient nylon and paint, Janis has found a place to make us all consider issues with a smile that often divide us."

She has always had a passion for reading and writing, and as a child dreamed of being a writer one day. Percussionist Leon Jordan, Sr. has more than 35 years of experience as a full time professional musician touring and recording with various well known Show More...jazz and R&B artists. Leon Sr. can be heard on more than one hundred and twenty-five published recordings to date as a sideman, performing jazz, pop, gospel, Latin and even country music from time to time. From the mid-1980's through the 90's, Leon Sr. toured and/or recorded extensively with; Grover Washington Jr., John Blake Jr., Phyllis Hyman, Benny Golson, Chaka Kahn, The Stylistics, Lou Rawls, Monette Sudler, Joey DeFrancesco, George Benson, Roy Ayres and even the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, just to name a few.
Leon Sr. also appeared in ensemble and orchestral performances for the touring companies of Ain't Misbehavin', Five Guys Named Moe, and Purlie and served as a music contractor and performer for the Prince Theater. To celebrate the approaching spring season, Delaware Valley University's Arts on Campus Initiative will bring the work of four Bucks County-based painters Show More...to campus for an art exhibition. The show, "Springtide & Solstice," will be on display on the second floor of the University's Life Sciences Building from Feb. 6 through March 31. Lisa Tremper Hanover, a former director and CEO of the James A. Michener Art Museum, is serving as the event's guest curator.
DelVal will host a public opening celebration for the "Springtide & Solstice" art exhibition on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. in the Life Sciences Building. At the opening, the University's Chorale and the Palisades Community Chorus will present a concert featuring Haydn's masterpiece, "The Seasons." Following the concert, guests will have the opportunity to meet the featured artists and guest curator. Guests do not need to reserve tickets in advance and there is no cost to attend the opening event.
"We are excited to work with guest curator Lisa Tremper Hanover on this exhibit given her connection to the region and knowledge of Bucks County's landscape painters," said Arts on Campus Co-Chair Linda Lefevre. "We invite the surrounding community to join us on campus for the concert and to view the work of these Bucks County artists."
"Each featured artist has exhibited award-winning work in prestigious juried, one-person, and group exhibitions throughout the country," said Hanover. "The selected artists have also garnered recognition as leaders in the artistic community."
Artwork from Richard Lennox, Christopher McCall, Robert Seufert, and Jas Szygiel will be included in the exhibit.. ...Show Less

The Art of Seating: Two Hundred Years of American Design organized by The Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville, Florida, presents a survey of exceptional Show More...American chair design from the early 19th century to the present day. Delaware Valley University's Food Systems Institute is bringing Lydia Berry to campus to provide a presentation on: "Resources for Food Quality Professionals." Show More...The presentation will be on February 25th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in Mandell Science Building room 114.
Berry's presentation will focus on understanding federal food quality and safety oversight. The presentation will include an in-depth overview of the federal agencies overseeing food quality and safety, descriptions of quality assurance and quality control measures, and information about the Food Safety and Modernization Act. The presentation will also include recommendations for helpful resources.
Berry earned a B.S. in Horticulture from DelVal and has extensive experience with the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service.

To celebrate the approaching spring season, Delaware Valley University's Arts on Campus Initiative will bring the work of four Bucks County-based painters Show More...to campus for an art exhibition. The show, "Springtide & Solstice," will be on display on the second floor of the University's Life Sciences Building from Feb. 6 through March 31. Lisa Tremper Hanover, a former director and CEO of the James A. Michener Art Museum, is serving as the event's guest curator.
DelVal will host a public opening celebration for the "Springtide & Solstice" art exhibition on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. in the Life Sciences Building. At the opening, the University's Chorale and the Palisades Community Chorus will present a concert featuring Haydn's masterpiece, "The Seasons." Following the concert, guests will have the opportunity to meet the featured artists and guest curator. Guests do not need to reserve tickets in advance and there is no cost to attend the opening event.
"We are excited to work with guest curator Lisa Tremper Hanover on this exhibit given her connection to the region and knowledge of Bucks County's landscape painters," said Arts on Campus Co-Chair Linda Lefevre. "We invite the surrounding community to join us on campus for the concert and to view the work of these Bucks County artists."
"Each featured artist has exhibited award-winning work in prestigious juried, one-person, and group exhibitions throughout the country," said Hanover. "The selected artists have also garnered recognition as leaders in the artistic community."
